The theme of this year's conference is 'Good work and its impact'. Factors external to the world of work have fundamentally changed how we organise and participate in work. Nevertheless, access to good work remains key to sustaining the health and wellbeing of our communities. How can this be ensured, though, in the face of the accelerated pace of technological change, intensified environmental and resource pressures, increasing globalisation of markets and rapid demographic change?

At the same time, by promoting economic, social and cultural rights, advocating for freedom of organisation and providing essential support for communities, the third sector also plays an important role in facilitating good work. To that end, philanthropy and the government may have an important role in ensuring good work both in the third sector as well as through the third sector. Yet, with limited resources and a challenging socio-political environment ensuring the viability of the third sector can prove difficult.

The Centre for Labour, Employment and Work (CLEW) at Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington and the Australia New Zealand Third Sector Research network (ANZTSR) are jointly hosting their conferences in November 2020.

The biennial conferences hosted by CLEW and ANZTSR have a unique focus on bringing together academics and research with policy makers and practitioners. The LEW conference has been key to discussions about the labour market, work, and workplaces for 30 years. The ANZTSR conference has been important for facilitating discussions about third sector organizations, volunteering, and philanthropy. In 2020, these two conferences come together to generate cross-sector insights into good work and the impact it can have for communities, industries, and organisations.

Given the uncertainty related to the Covid-19 pandemic, including the ability to provide a safe environment for conference attendees and travel restrictions across the world, a final decision on holding the conference will be made in mid-August.
