Consultation and engagement for our Local government funding and financing inquiry is underway.
Your submissions are vital for us to better understand specific local government issues and provide relevant and credible policy recommendations in our report to the Government. Please have your say - we welcome submissions by 15 February 2019. Thanks to all who have already submitted!
We're working with LGNZ to meet with a range of local authorities through their zone and sector meetings. We will also be arranging a series of council "cluster meetings" in different provisional areas, inviting neighbouring councils to participate. In addition, we will be meeting with other interested parties in the regions: business organisations, academics, iwi and other Māori organisations, developers, ratepayer organisations and other community groups and government agencies.
To help us “get beyond the averages”, we will invite a sample of councils across a range of diverse circumstances to participate in case studies. The aim is to investigate some of the specific issues facing councils and provide in-depth information on a range of issues. It will also provide participating councils with an opportunity to bring their critical issues to the attention of policy-makers, as well as showcasing successes and innovation.
Key inquiry dates
- 15 February 2019 - Submissions due on issues paper
- June 2019 - Draft report released and invitation for submissions
- August 2019 - Submissions due on draft report
- 30 November 2019 - Final report due to the Government
