University of Waikato New Zealand Economics Forum

The University of Waikato's New Zealand Economics Forum today focused on enhancing the quality of public conversation about economic policy in New Zealand.

Presentations and discussions explored the major challenges facing our national economy for policymakers and officials and the long-term economic impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr Ganesh Nana, Chair of the Productivity Commission, presented on the Challenges to & opportunities for improving productivity in a post-COVID worldView a recording of Ganesh's presentation here or view the presentation slides here.

Other speakers included Deputy Prime Minister Hon Grant Robertson, Minister of Finance, Professor Neil Quigley, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato and Chair of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand - Te Pūtea Matua, Professor John Gibson, Professor of Economics at Waikato Management School, along with a host of the country's top economists and business leaders.

The forum seeks to enhance the public conversation around economic policy in New Zealand, and debate priorities and pathways for the decade ahead, as a stronger and more sustainable future is sought.

The event continues tomorrow and will be livestreamed.

Speakers tomorrow include Vittoria Shortt, CEO of ASB Bank and Adrian Orr, Governor of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand - Te Pūtea Matua.
