What is productivity, and why does it matter?

Productivity matters for wellbeing. Achieving higher productivity – producing more with what we have (people, knowledge, skills, produced capital, and natural resources) – means there is more to go around for current and future generations.
Yet productivity can be a difficult concept to understand. Our Commissioner, Prof. Gail Pacheco, looks at what productivity is, why productivity matters for New Zealand and what can be done to lift productivity in this short video. We hope you find it a useful resource to help in the discussion about productivity.
