The Productivity Commission completed its inquiry into regulatory institutions and practices in 2014.

For this inquiry, the Commission was asked by the Government to identify where and how to make improvements in the quality and effectiveness of government regulatory institutions and practices. One of our recommendations was to form a new community of practice for those involved in regulation.

As a result, in 2015 the Government Regulatory Practice Initiative (G-Reg) was established by chief executives to improve regulatory practice, regulatory leadership, regulatory culture, and workforce capability in and across state sector organisations and regulatory systems.
