This report presents the Productivity Commission's findings and recommendations on long-term settings for immigration.

The Commission was asked to undertake an inquiry into New Zealand’s working-age immigration policies [link to inquiry page]. The disruption caused by Covid-19 created a rare break in migration flows in and out of New Zealand, and therefore presented an opportune time to focus on immigration settings for New Zealand’s long-term prosperity and wellbeing.

In its final report, the Commission made several recommendations including an immigration policy focused on selecting migrants who can make the biggest contribution to the economy and ensuring that New Zealand remains attractive to skilled migrants as the global competition for talent intensifies.
